English Toffee Bars

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ pound semisweet chocolate (melted)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
    1. Cream butter and brown sugar together until fluffy. Add egg and beat.
    2. Sift flour with baking powder. Add to sugar mix. Stir in vanilla.
    3. Spread mixture evenly in a greased 10 x 15-inch jelly roll pan.
    4. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
    5. Remove from oven. Spread melted chocolate over the top.
    6. Sprinkle with nuts and pat them in. Cut into bars before it cools. Makes 36 bars.
