Setting yourself on a course for good

But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

James 1:14-15

There’s a courthouse in Ohio that stands in a very unique location. Raindrops that fall on the north side of the building go into Lake Ontario and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. But those falling on the south side go into the Mississippi River and Gulf of Mexico. The division happens at the peak of the roof, where just a gentle puff of wind can make a difference of more than 2,000 miles for a raindrop.

Small things can often matter more than they first appear. Being one degree off on a compass is a small mistake at first. But after thousands of miles of travel, that one degree will take you far from your intended destination.

By the smallest deed or choice of words, we might set in motion influences that could change the course of our lives and others’. A flippant, unintended insult could repel others from even entertaining what you believe, potentially impacting their eternal destinies.

Now should we be overly critical of ourselves? No. But we have to understand that even a small, innocent comment or deed, good or bad, can have lasting consequences. With this in mind, strive to obey God in the little things, knowing that your behavior can set a course for the good or bad of yourself and others!
