Many of us came to faith at a time when it was respectable to be a Christian. But with each passing day in our culture it’s becoming more and more uncomfortable to truly follow Jesus.
Of course, that really shouldn’t surprise us. As A.W. Tozer once said…
“A real Christian is an odd number anyway. He feels supreme love for One whom he has never seen, talks familiarly every day to Someone he cannot see, expects to go to heaven on the virtue of Another, empties himself in order to be full, admits he is wrong so he can be declared right, goes down in order to get up, is strongest when he is weakest, richest when he is poorest, and happiest when he feels worst. He dies so he can live, forsakes in order to have, gives away so he can keep, sees the invisible, hears, the inaudible, and knows that which passeth knowledge.”
It can be unnerving to suddenly live in a culture that seems to question everything you believe. But take heart today knowing that man’s skepticism doesn’t rattle God.
The Gospel must be foolishness to a world lost in the dark. But to those of us who’ve been transformed by grace, it’s the very power of God that can redeem broken lives.
Prayer Challenge:
Ask God to help you trust Him in the midst of an increasingly critical culture. And pray for the grace to bear witness to God’s truth with your life.
