Do you take your calling in Christ seriously?

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?

James 2:5

When Queen Victoria was a child, she had no idea she was in line for the throne of England. Because of this, she was simply a happy-go-lucky child with no real focus or ambitions in life. Her instructors, trying to prepare her for the future, were frustrated because they couldn’t motivate her. She just didn’t take her studies seriously.

So finally, her teachers decided to tell her that one day she would become the queen of England and rule over the entire kingdom. Upon hearing this, Victoria quietly said, “Then I will be good.”

The realization that she had inherited this high calling gave her a sense of responsibility that profoundly affected her conduct from then on. Queen Victoria went on to become one of England’s most well-known monarchs, ushering in a period of cultural, industrial, and scientific change in the Western world.

Many believers today also need to know they have a high calling – that they are children of the Most High God and His representatives on earth. Yes, have fun in life. But never forget to take seriously your ultimate calling to make a difference for Jesus Christ in the world.
