Your Divine Privilege

“For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for The Lord; and if we die, we die for The Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to The Lord.”— Romans 14:7-8

On February 17, 1791, the famous preacher John Wesley preached his very last sermon. The text he preached was Isaiah 55:6, which says, “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.”

Wesley knew his time on earth was coming to an end. The very next day, he was bedridden in his home. During those last weeks of his life, he often repeated the words of one of his brother’s hymns: “I the chief of sinners am, but Jesus died for me!”

On March 2, just short of three weeks after his last sermon, John Wesley passed into eternity. His very last words were simple: “The best of all is, God is with us!”

When we look at the lives of people like John Wesley, we see men and women who were faithful in serving the Lord until their last breath. And as long as we have breath in our lungs, we’re privileged to have that be our solemn and simple responsibility: to proclaim Christ with all we have.

Every single one of us will one day be called home. But until that day, we have the divine privilege of proclaiming Christ until He returns. Keep your hand to the plow and your eyes on the cross. Preach Jesus to the world with every breath God gives you!
