Where do you get your cues?

“Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.” — Isaiah 8:20

A woman who had spent many weeks studying the life of Moses in her Bible exclaimed, “I know Moses so well that he doesn’t even look like Charlton Heston!

It’s all too easy to let the world dictate our views and feelings towards God and His Word.

This is what the ancient Israelites were guilty of in the book of Isaiah. Though God had given them His Word concerning their future, they still consulted mediums about what to expect and what to do. The God of Heaven and Earth who delivered them from Egypt and gave them a home in the Promised Land had graciously revealed His heart and plans – but they took their cues from a psychic.

These days, the world has a thousand different ideas about what they think God is like. They say He’s cruel, unjust, and irrelevant. Likewise, they say His Word is outdated, impractical, and deceptive.

But you know better. You’ve experienced His grace and love at work in your heart. You’ve been led by the light and truth of His Word through dark storms in your life. So take a cue from Isaiah today, and don’t pay attention to what the world says. Look to your Father in Heaven and His unchanging Word for strength, hope, and assurance!
