How can I avoid falling into the trap of building up false hope?

Keep your hope strongly tied to your faith. I heard about a man who hoped for years with all of his heart that he would win the lottery. So he played his same numbers faithfully every week until the day he died, never having won a single penny.

See, there was one big flaw in his hope: God never promised him that he would win. He was like the prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18 who cried out to their false god for hours, begging that he would show up. But he never did.

Don’t hold God to promises He’s never made. Instead, keep your hope strongly tied to your faith in the God of the Bible, who’s promised you everything you need.
