Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

Dear Friend,

This very old recipe is a favorite of our family. My mom made these cookies often, and would walk to our house carrying a huge batch with all of our neighborhood friends following her and begging for one.

I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup shortening

1 ½ cups sugar

2 eggs, beaten

½ teaspoon baking soda

3/4 cup sour cream

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon salt

3 cups flour

Sugar and fresh-ground nutmeg for sprinkling

Directions:

Blend shortening and sugar together in a medium bowl. Add beaten eggs.

In a large bowl, mix baking soda with sour cream and vanilla. Then add salt and flour gradually, alternating and stirring in between. Add shortening mix and mix well.

Drop by teaspoonful onto baking sheet. Sprinkle with sugar and nutmeg. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Enjoy!
