From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.
— Acts 17:26-27
James and his wife were at church one Sunday when they noticed a new couple sitting not far away from them. So after the service, they walked up and greeted them. The new couple asked where they lived, so James described his neighborhood and talked about how nice it was.
The same question was asked to the new couple, who lamented about where they were living. They said that in the few weeks since they moved in, not one of their neighbors had stopped by to say hello.
The two couples parted, got in their cars, and drove home. As James and his wife were pulling into their driveway, they were horrified to see the new couple… pulling into the driveway just next to theirs.
This sad story could be repeated in cities and towns all across our country today. That’s because many people simply refuse to take the time to get to know the people who are living right around them.
So wherever you live today, be it a house, community living, or any other situation, make an effort to get to know those who are living right around you. Build relationships and watch as God uses you to share His truth with others.
Prayer Challenge
Ask God to show you people who are around you today with whom you can begin building relationships.
Questions for Thought
Why do you think many people neglect building relationships with people who live around them?
Can you think of any neighbors with whom you haven’t put any effort to build a relationship? What are some practical steps you can take to engage them?
