From Virginia’s Kitchen

Dear Friend,

There’s nothing better on a cool winter morning than warming up with this yummy French Toast casserole. And it goes perfectly with a nice hot cup of coffee. Enjoy!

Baked French Toast Casserole

3/4 loaf of bread (I like to use cinnamon raisin)

4 eggs

2 cups half and half

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

Zest of 1 orange (optional)

4 Tablespoons butter

Maple syrup

Cut bread into 1 to 2-inch cubes and let sit for a few minutes.

Whisk together eggs, half and half, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, vanilla, and orange zest. Pour over bread and toss well.

Pour mixture into greased casserole dish and dot with butter. Then cover and refrigerate overnight.

Remove cover and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes until bread is puffed and golden brown. Serve with butter and warm maple syrup!
