Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.
— Philippians 2:1-2
In 1986, remnants of a hurricane dumped more than two feet of water in parts of Oklahoma, causing the Arkansas River to flood and devastating large parts of the city of the Tulsa area.
Many were forced to leave their homes. And when it was all said and done, several had lost their lives. But one local pastor who had been involved in the relief efforts saw something in those days he had never seen before.
He shared…
“I saw people coming together to fight the rising water – Republicans next to Democrats; Catholics next to Pentecostals; blacks next to whites. They put aside their differences for a greater purpose.”
The Church of Jesus Christ has the greatest purpose ever given. Yet so many self-proclaimed members find as many reasons as they can to gripe, complain, and fuss about what others are doing.
How different would Christianity look if the body of Christ stood together to build one another up instead of tearing each other down? Support other believers. Work together with them to accomplish the task the Lord’s given us. Be humble – and be one in Christ!
