To God be the glory!

Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.”

– 1 Chronicles 29:11

When the first Russian cosmonauts made that primitive little journey around the earth, it was said they radioed back, “We have been in the air. We have been around the earth, and we did not see God!”

While the truth of the rumor is debated, the sentiment of the statement is all too common in our culture today. But the following Sunday after that first historic orbit, Pastor W.A. Criswell of First Baptist Church Dallas responded to the cosmonauts’ statement with a biblical clarity we’d be wise to remember. He said…

“Ah, if only those cosmonauts had stepped out of their spacesuits, they would have then seen God up close!”

We’re all too quick to boast of our own independence and control. The fact is we are fragile beings living at the good pleasure of the Creator of the universe. Even our incredible achievements bear testimony to the design and order with which He created all things, including the human brain.

And even more incredible, that Creator knows you by name. He loves you unconditionally. And He’s adopted you as His child through the grace of Jesus Christ.

So take a moment today to sit humbly with your Heavenly Father and simply marvel at His majesty.
