Who’s really in control?

The LORD does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths.— Psalm 135:6

A Navy officer by the name of Frank Koch once illustrated the importance of obeying the Laws of the Lighthouse. One night, as he was serving on a battleship practicing maneuvers during heavy weather, he had been assigned to keep watch on the bridge. Because of the uncertain conditions, the captain remained on the bridge as well.

Not long after night fell, one of the lookouts reported, “Light, bearing on the starboard bow.”

“Is it steady or moving astern?” the captain called out.

The lookout replied, “Steady, captain,” which meant they were on a dangerous collision course with another ship.

The captain then called to the signalman, “Signal that ship: ‘We are on a collision course, advise you change course twenty degrees.’”

Back came the signal, “Advisable for you to change course twenty degrees.”

The captain said, “Send: ‘I’m a captain. Change course twenty degrees.’”

Back came the flashing light, “I’m a lighthouse.”

The captain quickly changed course!

It doesn’t matter how resolute we are when it comes to asserting our own will. God is the one who is ultimately in control. And while it’s easy to assert, “I’m the captain of my soul,” the truth is that there is much that is beyond your control.

Acknowledge God as the true lighthouse who never changes – and let Him guide your path. He’s there for your best and His glory!
