Is church all that important?

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.— Hebrews 10:24-25

A 100-year-old church member was having her birthday celebration at the church she had faithfully attended since she was a young girl. So after everyone had cake and ice cream and gave her cards and gifts in the fellowship hall, the entire group of family and friends was asked to come to the church sanctuary.

Her great-granddaughter, a young woman in her early thirties, had her come up to the pulpit. Before most of the church congregation, she was asked the question, “Great Grandma, we all know that you can barely hear, you can’t see, and you have a hard time even leaving home. So tell us, why do you still go to church every Sunday??”

The faithful Christian woman answered, “Because I love Jesus with all my heart. He commanded me to be here, and I just want to show everybody whose side I’m on.”

It’s easy to find reasons not to attend or stream church and fellowship with other believers. Especially now when many people truly are unable to attend. But make every effort to be involved at church or watch online so you can grow in your faith, fellowship with other believers, and show everyone whose side you’re on!
