How to build a faith that overcomes any doubt

A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” — John 20:26-27

G. Campbell Morgan had already enjoyed some success as a preacher by the time he was 19 years old. But then he was attacked by doubts about the Bible. The writing s of skeptical scientists and agnostics disturbed him. As he read their books and listened to debates, Morgan became more and more perplexed.

As his faith began to waver, Morgan cancelled all of his preaching engagements, put all the books in a cupboard, and locked the door. He then went to the bookstore and bought a brand new Bible. He said to himself, “If this is the Word of God, and if I come to it with an unprejudiced and open mind, it will bring assurance to my soul of itself.”

The results, as Morgan describes, was that “the Bible found me.” This new assurance gave him the motivation to continue his preaching and teaching ministry that impacted thousands of live for with the gospel.

Overcoming doubt happens not when we close our minds, but when we open them. As we read Scripture openly and honestly, we see clearly the hand of God working throughout human history, and can’t deny His power. So when doubt arises, go to the Bible. Remember God’s faithfulness, and He’ll build your faith!
